Case Study: 5 international projects

Gardline Geosciences has undertaken a variety of projects in a variety of locations, below is an overview of a few of them.

Caspian Sea

Gardline Geosciences performed  a project in Turkemistan performing 15m deep  CPTs  using  a 100kN seabed CPT unit, the 10 tonne ROSON.  This  project was mobilised  in Baku, Azerbyjan  on a charter  barge and tug  combination.  This was logistically a very complicated  project  involving transporting all equipment including deployment  cranes  from the UK.  With numerous  logistical, political and environmental problems to overcome  the project was successfully completed.

Venezuela

Gardline Geosciences  were requested to perform  seismic  cone  tests  from the  client’s jackup  in Venezula.  We were requested at short notice to provide a complete seismic set up and operator  to site.  The seabed seismic hammer and cones were  air-freighted to site.  The operator  had the  hard  task of  being flown to Trinidad and transiting to the jackup up  by yacht!  The  project involved  performing  3  seismic  cone tests  to  35m  and  providing the client  with an interpretation of  the dynamic  shear  modulus of the soil.

Burbo  Bank Wind  Farm

Gardline Geosciences performed  a  major  windfarm investigation  for the Burbo Bank  windfarm.  Gardline Geosciences  were  working for  Seacore  for this project.  This  work involved  working from the live-aboard  jackup  rig the Excalibur and  comprised,  traditional top push cone penetration testing with the  CF cone,  downhole  CPT  testing, seismic  cone testing and a cable route investigation performed  from a  separate multicat  vessel.  The  cable route  survey comprised  seabed  CPTs, vibrocores and environmental sampling.

Malaga

As part of the harbour  development  Gardline Geosciences performed a  small project  in Malaga  Harbour. This comprised  15m  seabed  CPTs  performed  using the 10 tonne ROSON.  The  unit was mobilised on to a  client supplied  vessel  and the work  scope  was  completed  in  two days.

Tenerife

Gardline Geosciences Neptune unit was shipped to Tenerife  where  it had a number of projects  to complete.  The whole unit  including umbilicals and  controls  can be shipped in  one 20' container and unloaded directly  on to a client's  vessel.  This unit performed CPTs  in medium dense to dense  sands  to depths of  10m.  On completion of the first  project in Santa  Cruz  the vessel  sailed to Gomaera  Island for its  2nd contract.
